I'm not sure how I feel about this, I kind of liked being the underdog, and was hoping to keep that status throughout this four game stretch keeping up the, "Well they beat so and so, can they really beat so and so now," deal up the whole way. Alas, the associated press deemed our performance against Georgia Tech a worthy enough thrashing to vault us 11 spots from 20th straight up to 9th. That sits us right ahead of Oklahoma (10th), and Virginia Tech (11th), Miami's next two opponents. This means two things, one, Miami will definitely be facing four ranked opponents in a row, but, in at least one poll, we won't be the underdogs in those games. |

So here we are again, a bit earlier in the season than we're used to, but USC has yet again lost to an unranked Pac 10 opponent. There will be hundreds, possibly thousands, of articles all over the internet talking about this game, so I thought I'd go a bit unique and point out some facts about the game others might not look at in all the "excitement" of a top 5 USC team losing a game it should have won by 3 touchdowns. |

A lot of big things happened this past week of college football, so we'll work our way from the inside out. First up was the second headline ACC matchup in just four days. We all know how spectacularly Miami and FSU played, despite not being ranked very high (or at all), as do the ratings since it was the second highest rated ESPN college football game behind the same matchup in 2006. While the Georgia Tech - Clemson matchup wasn't nearly as exciting as the Miami - FSU one, it did prove to be one of the better games of the weekends, making the ACC two for two. Georgia Tech, for the second game in a row, seemed unable to close the deal after going up 24-0 early. Yes, Clemson really stepped its game up defensively, and found some offense, but the seeming inability for Georgia Tech to score any points beyond the first quarter is now becoming worrisome for fans, coaches, and players alike. While Georgia Tech did somehow pull out the win, coupled with FSU's struggles against Jacksonville State, Clemson is really showing it could be the dark horse we all knew they were capable of if they could pull everything together. |

A brief look over at ESPN.com and you’d think that half of their college columnists are betrothed to Tim Tebow, the Florida Gators, and the SEC as a whole. Doing some good old fashioned statistical work, things are looking good for the rest of college football, if trends from last year continue. |

So it’s finally time to do my pre fall practices ACC preview. I have to specifically mention fall practices because injuries a reality of any type of training, and offseason activites, and thus far most of the ACC has been lucky. The two exceptions are Mark Herzlich of Boston College, diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, and Nate Irving of NC State who broke his leg in a car accident. There may have been other minor injuries sprinkled here and there, but these two are the only significant losses for ACC teams. |

First up, my sincerest apologies for the gap in articles, fear not though, this is not another indication of a flash disappearance on my part, I simply went home to celebrate my 23rd birthday. At home I gathered some books, of which I currently have at least one hundred at last count, among them a very important book to my heart, and one I believe every ‘Cane fan should own: ‘Cane Mutiny: How the Hurricanes Overturned the Football Establishment by Bruce Feldman.
To ‘Canes fans of yore, be prepared to not only be taken on a trip through the history you know so well, but to get an inside look at many things you didn’t know, and probably should to see the whole picture that is the U. For those of you like myself, who only got to experience bits and pieces of the first half of the Hurricane dynasty, and reveled in the short lived second half, this book should be a real eye opener. |
