ImageThe Big Twelve North, in recent years, has been about as wide open as any race can be. In the absence of Nebraska many teams have tried on the crown of king of the north. Not that it has mattered much, as none of the teams in the north have stood much of a chance against the states of Texas and Oklahoma, and even then Oklahoma has been falling behind Texas. Now I'm not just talking about the respective University's that happen to be named after their state, the Big Twelve South is chock full of talented teams, who, with the absence of Vince Young, once again have a chance to topple Texas.

Oklahoma was top on everybody’s list, until Bomar of course had the auto dealership incident that got him kicked off the team. Replacing a quarterback is hard enough, replacing one so close to the start of the season, and one who has not played that position in quite some time since being converted wide receiver is nigh impossible. They may tack on some wins, but I can't see them being very competitive. That said, they have just as much talent on offense as Texas, and Texas does have to figure out how to replace the one man band of Vince Young, without whom would they have won a national title.

Oklahoma State will be the team to look for out of the state of Oklahoma. A high-powered offense will have some creamer puffs to warm up on before their schedule ends with 4 of the last 5 against ranked opponents, including the season capper at home against Oklahoma.

A common trend in the Big Twelve is a nice creamer puff to open up the season, get your feet wet. Texas A&M is no exception as their first four games include the like of The Citadel and Louisiana Tech, so barring a miracle they should start out 4-0. In fact, barring some major upsets; most of the top 6-7 in the Big Twelve should have at least 2-4 wins notched before they even get tested.

The south is going to be more competitive then ever this year, with only Baylor definitely out of the picture. As for the north, who knows? Will Nebraska return to it's old days? If not look for the North to be just as open, until that is it faces the winner from the South.
