ImageOh boy, that was one disappointing game. On a weekend where most teams in the top 25 were eclipsing 30 points against teams like Northern Illinois and Northern Texas, UM and FSU couldn't even manage a combined 30 first downs, in fact they barely made it halfway with 17 combined first downs. Moreover, if it weren't for a shanked punt and a quick FSU field goal, this game would still be tied. In the first half there were flashes of a UM offense, no running, but Kyle Wright looked comfortable. On the other side, every time Drew made a pass, it seemed a UM DB was jumping up to tip it away. The second half was the exact opposite. UM's offense looked confused, culminating in the center snapping the ball off his own butt, wasting a crucial down. FSU's offense looked to be clicking, but still couldn't do much in the way of scoring, and only had one true sustained drive. Truly, a parallel could be made if that first field goal had never happened. Good drives and ten points in the second quarter, then good drives and ten points in the fourth, split by each team.

All this is ugly, and deserves scorn, but the ugliest stat of the night; 3 total rushing yards. You read that right, on a total of 51 attempts the two teams combined for 3 total rushing yards, 1 for FSU and 2 for Miami, so I guess Miami had twice as many yards rushing. Surprisingly there were no fumbles, and only 2 interceptions (one on each side), so from that view it was a well played game, but that is very little to build from.

I, for one, am glad the game is being moved back to October. In these past three years, no one could come away with too much pride, because if Miami had won, it would still just be an ugly win. The scores, 16-10 Miami victory, 10-7 FSU, and 13-10 FSU tell all. That's a combined score of 66, whereas in 2002 Miami and FSU combined for 55 points. I'll finish by saying, even though it was ugly, it was still a loss, which means it was still a win for FSU. The only thing I can say is I hope they win out so there can be a true rematch for the ACC title. Ok here's the box score:
