The brawl aside (I'll be writing an article about that at a later date) a game was played saturday, and if you like defense then this was an incredible game...if you're a Miami Hurricane fan that is. Here are FIU's stats, 114 total yards, 28 rushing, and 86 passing, 10 first downs, and 3 turnovers. This adds up to a very frustrating day for FIU and a very dominating performance by Miami.

Considering that 77 of those 114 yards came in the first half, you can understand why the aforementioned brawl occured in the third quarter. The biggest reason though was the Miami offense and their inability to put the game away early when they should have. It's easy to understand why FIU felt it could talk smack and feel that it was in this game when Miami can only get a total of 69 yards in their first 5 drives, with only one missed field goal attempt.

The only score of the half came late in the second quarter, and was only a 39 yard drive for a touchdown coming off a 20 yard punt from FIU's Chris Cook. The second touchdown, coming  with about 11 minutes left in the third, was also a 39 yard drive, this time off a blocked punt with net yardage of -9.  The third touchdown came off a Calais Campbell sack and fumble recovery, and netted only 15 yards for the score. Although Kyle Wright did finally break out and throw three touchdown passes, his three scoring drives netted a paltry 92 yards. Kirby Freeman had 2 scoring drives for 99 yards, including a 3 play 72 yard stomp down the field, culminating in an 8 yard touchdown pass to Lance Leggett, his second of the day.

Some consistant stars have emerged, Javarris James  (although he had a mediocre day, at best), and Lance Leggett have proven themselves as this. Lance has already surpassed his total yards of last year, and is 59 away from his best of 349 in his rookie year.

If the offense can find some consistancy, and the defense continues to dominate, don't lose too much hope for Miami running the table and finding itself in a BCS bowl game. With the fight, this team is closer to each other then it has ever been. Whether this equates to wins, only time will tell. There will be no gallery for this game as the only images on the net are of the fight, so here's the box score:
