I suppose we should get through the fodder before getting to the juicy stuff for the week. First up, Arizona thumps Wazzu. Unranked, and under .500, Arizona found a way to beat the Cougars 27-17. Running was how they did it. Only 116 yards, but on about 40 carries, the Wildcats had a 10+ minute advantage on TOP. Without the ball, it's very hard for an offense to score. Boo on Wazzu's defense for allowing the Wildcats to run on them just enough to give their offense minimal time and attempts to score. Great job, on the other hand, for the Wildcats defense to hold the Cougars to 17 points, nearly 10 under their season average. Top 25, say good bye to the Cougars.

Virginia Tech is lucky, as are many teams who have faced the Hurricanes, that Miami's offense gift wrapped this game for them. With 17 points on the day, all of which came off Miami turnovers, the Hookies are lucky to leave with a win on a day their defense only gave up 10 points. If not for 2 interceptions placing the ball deep inside Miami's territory, VaTech wouldn't have even seen the 50 yard line the whole game. I'd like to give an award to Miami's defense for being such good sports while their offense totally colapses and loses games around them. The way the offense has been trying, Miami's lucky to have a win this season, of the 5 wins Miami does have, only 2 were truly in hand by the fourth quarter.

Seems like Clemson just can't recover from a bad loss. Every time we think they've jumped that hurdle and are ready for that next step, they regress four or five games and return to obscurity. A 13-12 loss to Maryland is great proof of that. Now I know the ACC, particularly this year where 9 teams are ranked in the top 40 in most defensive statistical catagories, is considered a defensive conference, Clemson simple has too many weapons to only manage 12 points, 4 field goals ain't gonna cut it guys.

You know, it ain't pretty, but Oklahoma just keeps on winning. Can you imagine how good they'd be if they had a QB and RB? While Miami's defense does enough to win games, but has the offense give it away, Oklahoma seems to do just enough offensively, with brilliant defense, to win games. They won't contend against the best of them, but they'll go to a good bowl, and should finish in the top 15 if they continue on this way. The just enough this time happaned to be a 17-16 victory over then #21 ranked Texas A&M.

Pigs are flying trumpets sounding, dear lord save us all, Wake Forest is a good team. With a 21-14 victory over Boston College, they have proven without doubt that they do indeed belong in the Top 25, and with only 1 loss should be ranked higher. You tell me Texas has played that many more better teams then Wake has, playing teams like Rice and Sam Houston. Ah well, great game by the Demon Deacons, they may just be the ACC's only hope of a respectable opponent in the BCS game, that is unless GaTech beats them for it.

The ole ball coach just can't seem to win those close one's. The Gamecocks last three losses were by 7 points or less, to teams ranked #2, #8, and #12. They seem to be just one piece from being a legit top 25 team. This most recent loss was to Arkansas. Down 23-6 by half time, a touchdown in each of the next two quarters, and giving up only a field goal, had them within 26-20 with over 13 minutes left in the fourth. They couldn't pull off the upset, but at this point I'm sure they're used to it. They've done it twice before to top 10 teams, why not a top 15 one?

Well, it's now down to Florida and Auburn. WIth Tennessee's loss to LSU, only those other two remain as top ten 1 loss teams in the ACC, one of whom is likely to be going to a BCS Bowl. Up 24-21, with very little time left on the clock, Tennessee must have thought this game was in hand. That was until Early Doucet caught a TD pass with 9 seconds remaining in the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see these two teams flip flop in the standings.

Speaking of Florida, would someone tell them their supposed to beat Vanderbilt? 25-19 is simply not acceptable for a top 10 team with hopes for a title berth. If you want to face the OSU-Michigan winner, you'll have to do better then that, otherwise you might as well let...

LOUISVILLE, that's right Louisville beat West Virginia Thursday night in what should have looked like a rout if not for a couple of late scores that didn't matter anyhow. One thing I liked about this game, they let the fans storm the field. I didn't dig too deep but I saw no news reports of major injuries. They had collapsable field goals, and everyone ran to the center of the field to celebrate. It doesn't seem that bad to me. I went to the Miami-VaTech game at the OB, and man, they even had metal police barriers surrounding both benches, on top of the police force set there to protect the field and ourselves from...ourselves. This game had over 1,000 total yards, and was really one of the best games I've seen all season. I miss the Big East, where there were only really 2-3 really good defensive teams, and it was nightly shoot outs. Both teams scored at least once in each of the four quarters (has Miami even done that once this year?), and Louisville officially has my vote to get into the championship game if it can win out (which I don't think they will as Rutgers will beat them, and then Rutgers will lose later on to West Virginia in their last game).

Really good week, lots more that went on, but didn't seem as important as this. Any suggestions for next week please email me. Till then.
