Brian Pata is still being cheered at the University of Miami, but this time it's not on the football field. In a show of honor and respect for the fallen Hurricanes Donna E. Shalala presented Pata's parents with a posthumous degree. Pata, a criminology major, was fatally shot outside his apartment more than six months ago on Nov. 7th.
"His warm, wide smile and his incredibly competitive spirit will be remembered by all who knew him," an announcer told the crowd. John Warnecke also recieved a degree having died in a car crash earlier in the year. Shalala spoke not only of the two players deaths, but also sent out her regards and spoke on the shooting tragedy that occured in Virginia Tech recently. Pata, we will always remember and miss you. You weren't just a great player, or leader, you were a great man, goodbye my friend. |
