I'm not sure how I feel about this, I kind of liked being the underdog, and was hoping to keep that status throughout this four game stretch keeping up the, "Well they beat so and so, can they really beat so and so now," deal up the whole way. Alas, the associated press deemed our performance against Georgia Tech a worthy enough thrashing to vault us 11 spots from 20th straight up to 9th. That sits us right ahead of Oklahoma (10th), and Virginia Tech (11th), Miami's next two opponents. This means two things, one, Miami will definitely be facing four ranked opponents in a row, but, in at least one poll, we won't be the underdogs in those games.

So here we are again, a bit earlier in the season than we're used to, but USC has yet again lost to an unranked Pac 10 opponent. There will be hundreds, possibly thousands, of articles all over the internet talking about this game, so I thought I'd go a bit unique and point out some facts about the game others might not look at in all the "excitement" of a top 5 USC team losing a game it should have won by 3 touchdowns.

A lot of big things happened this past week of college football, so we'll work our way from the inside out. First up was the second headline ACC matchup in just four days. We all know how spectacularly Miami and FSU played, despite not being ranked very high (or at all), as do the ratings since it was the second highest rated ESPN college football game behind the same matchup in 2006. While the Georgia Tech - Clemson matchup wasn't nearly as exciting as the Miami - FSU one, it did prove to be one of the better games of the weekends, making the ACC two for two.

Georgia Tech, for the second game in a row, seemed unable to close the deal after going up 24-0 early. Yes, Clemson really stepped its game up defensively, and found some offense, but the seeming inability for Georgia Tech to score any points beyond the first quarter is now becoming worrisome for fans, coaches, and players alike. While Georgia Tech did somehow pull out the win, coupled with FSU's struggles against Jacksonville State, Clemson is really showing it could be the dark horse we all knew they were capable of if they could pull everything together.

Duke did something last year they haven’t been able to do since 2004, they win an ACC game. Duke won as many games last year, four, as they had since, and including, that same 2004 season. No, they didn’t become bowl eligible, no they didn’t win a game of any importance, but this is Duke, perennial bottom feeder of the ACC. They’re still bottom of the barrel, but they’re not sitting anymore, they’re standing, trying to claw their way back out and throw Boston College down into the barrel.

Mysterious, unknown....seriously, what will Clemson bring to the table this year? Dabo was able to appear to turn things around for Clemson the second half of the season, but with wins against Boston College, Duke, and Virginia that could be a pretty deceiving perception of his effectiveness as a coach. Also of note were the losses in recruiting, and the wholesale fire that went through his coordinators and assistants. There’s talent for the Tigers, no doubt about that, but I question the ability of Dabo (can you tell I love this man’s first name), to bring it all together on the field, similar to Tennessee teams of... the last few years.
